Wellness is the active, ongoing process of making choices and pursuing a lifestyle that leads to a state of holistic health and well-being. This would encompass physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual dimensions of life. It is more than just the absence of illness; it is a goal-oriented pursuit of overall quality of life.
Most of our readers and indeed Club Physical’s members would fall into this category. The majority of people I chat with, not only exercise regularly, but they like to eat healthily and contribute to our CP community, by contributing to the vibe and by making friends; providing an overall mix of physical and mental health.
It would be extremely interesting to know the health statistics of the average member, in comparison to the non-exercising New Zealand public. For example, a Statistics NZ Report showed that in 2023 26% of people experienced poor mental wellbeing! But we would expect the percentage of members in that category will be far lower.
At the gym, you have an avenue to move your body in a compelling atmosphere whenever you like. When you train your body releases endorphins and serotonin, natural mood boosters to lift your spirit and keep stress in check.
You connect. The friendly faces, the shared energy in classes and even the sense of routine help build belonging and purpose. Studies show that social connection coupled with movement dramatically reduces anxiety and depression.
You’re not only lifting weights. You’re lifting your mind!
