Do you see the value of ‘discipline’. In a highly evocative interview with US Navy Seal, Jocko Willink, he told us that ‘discipline equals FREEDOM’!
Reading that, your brain might initially object. But consider this. It’s by the discipline of going to bed at a similar time each night, allowing 7-8 hours sleep, that you will enjoy the freedom of feeling good, being mentally sharp with energy the next day.
It’s by the discipline of exercising daily (doesn’t all have to be at the gym) that you will enjoy the freedom of movement, independence and be less likely to be bound by the constrains of disease.
It’s by the discipline of avoiding highly processed, sugary and junk food that you will enjoy freedom from the social and bodily impacts of obesity.
Arguably the US Navy Seals undergo some of the toughest inductions in the world. When questioned on his resolve in making it through, Jocko said this;
“There were a high number of quitters on the course. Their ‘WHY’…..their reason for completing it, in some cases, wasn’t big enough, or clear enough in their minds.
Others overthought things and dwelled on ‘how much this sucks’, leading to them quitting. But my attitude when ordered to do the next task was, ‘Sure, let’s do it!’. I didn’t dwell on the thoughts; I just did it. You might say, ‘I embraced the suck’. And that got me through.
At Club Physical we’re not expecting YOU to become a US Navy Seal. But perhaps, in reading this, it might trigger a few thoughts in your head on how you might be self-sabotaging your results. Put an end to overthinking your exercise routine. Embrace the suck……just do it. Remember discipline equals FREEDOM!
