Although it sometimes feels like a drag going out for that walk, run, getting up early, or driving to the gym after a long day at work. The common feeling is “Ugh I have to do this”. The mindset that it is a chore, is causing it to feel like a chore, or an inconvenience in your day that you ‘should’ be doing. But in actual fact, it is a privilege. It is a privilege to move, it is freedom, it is an opportunity.
We have the privilege of being able to create a better life for ourselves, to create a longer and happier life, and one that lets us be free to do what we want without limitations.
A better mindset shift that you can begin to adapt when dreading that workout is – “I get to go for a run”. The simple act of saying “I get to” or “I’m able to”, allows us to feel privileged to be able to do what some can’t. It signals to our brains that this is a chance to treat ourselves; it’s an honour.
Wellness is freedom. Creating a lifestyle that lets you make the most of every aspect of your life. We shouldn’t have to “get back into it”, because you should never have left it. Your personal wellness should be the priority in your life, it isn’t selfish; it gives you the freedom to be able to support others. You can’t give without having something to give. You have to protect your own energy to be able to give energy to others. You have to keep safe your own time to be able to give time to others.
So next time you feel enthusiastic about that workout; say “I get to do this”.
