Meet people where they are at

It’s important to recognise that everyone is on their own journey in life. We don’t know what people have been through, what battles they are dealing with, what they have overcome, or why they act in certain ways.

“You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover” … Sounds cliche but it is something that comes with great meaning. We aren’t all meant to look the same, be the same, train the same, have the same goals, strive for the same wins. We all have different perspectives, and a win for someone may be walking for 30 minutes or completing a push up. For others it may be running 10km or reaching 10 pull-ups.

PT Kevin made a video, which puts this into perspective regarding motivating people versus making people feel bad about themselves. He talks about how many may use social media as a chance to show only the best snippets of life and not exposing real parts, the parts they aren’t as proud of. Portraying the so-called ‘motivational messages’ that some create; but as a dig at people that are not at their level in a certain area.

We must meet people where they are – everyone is following their individual line in life. And just because they don’t achieve the same things, it does not make them lazy or less.

The best thing we can do is take notes and recognise where we can empathize with people to boost them up and not make them feel worthless. Let’s be kind to one another in such a chaotic world, we are all trying to do our best with what we have.
