One of the main reasons you joined Club Physical might have been to lose weight, or to stay trim. Half of the results you will get will be determined by what you eat. You might be tempted to dramatically cut-your calories, carbohydrates, or to adopt the latest diet trend.
This is a mistake.
When you dramatically cut your calorie intake and go hungry, you will only be able to sustain this for a limited time. Doing this causes you to overly dwell in your mind on what you are missing, how hungry you are, and what you would like to eat. Your bodies metabolism slows to burn calories at a slower rate, a natural state of preservation. If deprived enough of adequate nutrition, your body may even cannibalise some of your valuable muscle for energy. Muscle is a major user of energy, and less muscle, again, slows the metabolism.
The superior solution if you want to lean down and stay trim and athletic is to investigate and to be conscious of the food choices that you are making. Most people find that a combination of five to six meals daily, including water, fruits, vegetables, grain, and protein will help to maintain energy and satiety. You could call your morning tea-break a mealtime, so this is doable.
With your nutritional habits improving, a work-out most days of the week would be a priceless health-discipline to boost your overall wellness. Include 2-3 sessions resistance-training along with 20-30 minutes of moderate to intense cardio most days. You can do these as a ‘class in the gym’ where you will have a stimulating instructor and motivating surroundings, or perhaps take the dog for a brisk walk or jog.
And to help form the habit as a person new to an exercise routine, instead, think of this time as ‘enjoyable movement’ rather than something onerous. Then it’s more likely you’ll keep the practice up.
