FIVE ways you’ll save the environment when you Get Physical!

The more health-conscious you get, the greater the positive impact you’ll have on our planet. As you become fitter, you also become more aware of the foods you eat and how your lifestyle impacts your body and the environment around you.

Firstly, it’s a known fact that, when you’ve made the decision to shed the excess fat around your waist, you’ll be less likely to reach for that super-sized packet of calorie-dense chips in the supermarket. You start thinking about the quality of the food you eat. And the more interested you become, the more likely you are to seek out products with less additives, less sugar, more organic and those that are better for the environment.

As your interest grows in heathier foods, so too will you likely become more in-tune with environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly products.

With your increased fitness, you’ll be more likely to ‘run with the kids’. To walk on the beach or to hike on a track. You’ll find yourself becoming more aware and appreciative of the fresh-air and the nature around you. This growing awareness will likely translate into a stronger commitment to environmental conservation and advocacy.

Your increased interest in living a healthy lifestyle will, in many cases, have the snowball effect of positively influencing the friends and family around you.

The fifth point is that heathier people reduce the burden on the health-care system, which in New Zealand is currently unable to cope with demand. Increased fitness means lower consumption of resources and medications and less medical waste.

Yes, as your passion grows towards leading an active and healthy lifestyle, you not only conserve your own health, but you will be more likely to have a greater respect for the biosphere, for simpler nutritionally dense foods and for the environment around you.
