How Good’s Your ‘Self-Discipline’?

Without self-discipline it’s unlikely that you will succeed in life. The Oxford Dictionary defines self-discipline as the ability to control your feelings and overcome your weaknesses.

Unfortunately, some in society have grown-up lacking discipline that has led to greater problems in life and relationships. Discipline is generally a healthy thing. Katherine Lee of the publication Verywell writes ‘without discipline, children lack the tools necessary to navigate relationships and challenges in life such as self-discipline, respect for others, and cooperating with peers’.

Developing and strengthening your self-discipline is fundamental to improving your health. In the Army, the core of discipline is to immediately do what your superiors order you to do, and not to delay or question this. Similarly, self-discipline is the desire and ability to proceed with the plan, the goal, the system you have logically and emotionally committed to, regardless how you feel on the day. Make no ‘excuses’.  As if a serjeant was ordering you to act. Just do it, without question or delay. Proceed with your plan.

Decide on the health, strength and fitness results you want and crave. Get yourself a diary and schedule your plan to get these results. Then, just as if it were a business or social appointment, don’t compromise. Your appointment to work on yourself has priority. That also goes for the type and quality of the food you eat. Continue to build that self-discipline so that you eat foods that will give you long-term energy, enhance your health and align with your desired results.

Self-discipline is debatably the most important ingredient to your health/fitness success, and for any success you wish to achieve in life.
