Let Them

At times I fall into the trap of letting the opinions of others guide my emotions, thoughts, and actions.. However, when I think about how this is creating the wrong message in my brain and causing me to act out of seeking approval and permission, it becomes unhealthy.

The problem is that I am giving so much attention to what others are thinking or doing, and by doing so I am giving all my power away. The two words ‘Let Them’ can set us free from this exhausting cycle of negative comparison and judgement, and allows us to be in control of ourselves.

I have been reading ‘The let them theory’ for the past few weeks,as part of 75Hard. It is somehow confronting and at the same time puts things into perspective for me. Mel Robbins talks about embracing a bit of vulnerability; letting ourselves off the hook when the reality is that we will not be perfect at all times… and neither will anyone else. She emphasises the positive and relief of ‘letting people’ think as they do, and not to try to control them or the opinions they have…. They will have them regardless of whether you let them or not.

Whether at work or around friends and family; we all get overwhelmed by controlling situations, chasing approval, and managing others happiness. Mel expresses the mere act of saying ‘let them’ can set us free from those feelings and lets us get on with our lives.

I urge you to give this a read if you are seeking out a book to read that you can put its teachings into practice straight away.

Other 75 Hard members are discovering some interesting reads;
– Paul is currently reading: ‘The Diary of a CEO’,
– Monika: ‘AI and U’,
– Haval: ‘How I Built This’,
– Saskia ‘Million Dollar Weekend’,
– Sree ‘The greatest secret’…
